Garmin, Nuvi 255W GPS

Hi Everyone,

Sharing with u all tat I bought the brand new GPS 255W $330 come with all accessories and preloaded the Spore and Malaysia map...

I got the lobang from my fren intro tis guy "Henry" selling various of
Garmin Nuvi GPS.

Now the market or other shop selling $399..I save $69.

Waiting for my drive to come then install on it..

He is very nice,frenly guy and guide u how to use and download the latest map.

Any bros and sis interested can PM for "Henry contact".

Actually hor if you buy local set you should go for nuvi255W/760 cause these are the only 2 local garmin which come with additional feature like junction view...

Well this is how I felt cause if you are buying other model other then nuvi255W/760 then go for import set like me whom had purchase 265WT which come with bluetooth build in and only cost me SGD$300 like that including shipment.

It is definitely worth it if this comes with warranty, eastgear is selling the same set at $359 (comes with free gifts thot).

Map should not be an issue, there are many free/cheap lobang for map.

And another consolation is Garmin will honour all warranties even if you didn't get a unit from the local agent. Although you'd have to ship it to Garmin in Taiwan at your own risk and cost yourself after getting an RMA# from product support via email.

For units purchased from authorised agents, the a/m process is through them. And they undertake the risks and S&H expenses.

And don't forget that you may not be able to get the free unlock codes for the non-regional version hardware along with the Junction View feature. Unlock codes required for the Garmin compiled MSM maps. Unit serial number will indicate if it is an authorised dealer/asia pacific version hardware.

Caveat Emptor! Regardless, they are as good as new(knowing Garmin's Warranty Policies) and they are still fully covered by warranty.

Where do u mount your GPS? Most GPS coming with WindScreen mount,
but no matter where i check, seems like quite difficult on mount on Forte windscreen. In my opinion, the "best" position is already been taken by the EPR reader...

Before you do it, pls make sure your solar film has been on for at least a week for the adhesive and bond to cure! Especially so if your car is seldom in the sunshine. Otherwise, welcome to blister hell!

And what you say is true. The windscreen of the Forte is so angled... Exactly one of the reasons why I'm not using my old Nuvi 300 for the time being and having to contend with voice-only directions from my smartphone also running Garmin's GMXT.

i prefer mount at the dashboard instead on d windscreen.both dashboard n windscreen mounting included in the box.(GARMIN NUVI BRAND)

I got the Garmin Friction Mount it is really value for $$ and very stable.. no matter how you put it and how you drive it stay as it is and never move an inches.

The only downside is the mount base is slightly too big

Well, so long as you don't have V-Kool's premium solar films with metallic components in the film itself, you'd be surprised where your GPS unit can receive signals from the satellites waaay up there.

GPS units nowadays make use of some very sensitive and multi-parallel channeled receiver front-ends; MTK and SirF easily come to mind.

But I agree about the cup-holder positions being a little too awkward...

Dunno the other brands, but for Garmin, you can consider Nuvi255W, Nuvi765T, and the new 5" screen Nuvi1460. All less than $600.

But the functionalities are different....so do consider carefully.

Generally, Garmin GPSr are easily available in most shops....

However if you want reputable one than you can go to Perfect Watch (or PW) in Sim Lim Tower, or you can go to EastGear...

PW is a dealer with the Garmin Singapore distributor, NaviCom while EastGear is a parallel importer...

EastGear however provided their units with an authorised Singapore Land Authority Postal codes and addresses details in the map.

Localised Garmin units are target at the local market in that some features such as Junction View and Lane Assist may not be available in similar units sold elsewhere in the world like Taiwan or the USA. So the prices varies accordingly. And firmware updates are different too.

And no, GPSr units can be used in most parts of the world provided you have maps of that area.
