Koup 1.6Manual Test Drive

Finally, i get to go for my testdrive, 11wks aft payment @ Vivo..
Tit. Silver, Manual 1.6L. (I insisted on any color but red, as i wanna try e feel of other colors then my ride.. hahah)
Similar to gambling, most of us book the Koup without even having the chance to sit in, testdrive, compare specs nor foresee-ing its true value..
When my SE drove e car out, I gotta admit the looks of a moving Koup caughted me for 5secs man... hahah.. It is muscular, unbelievable, sexy!!!

First Impression
The leather steering wheel accompanied with lots of controls + LED linings around the speakers + Boot space + Glowing meters = Kool. Boot space is enough to transform Koup into a family car(able to squeeze 3 more friends into e boot = 4+3=7!!). Rear passenger space is surprisingly large(try sitting in RX8/Beetle rear seats -.-'''). There is insufficient head and leg room for me (i'm 1.8m).
Again i must say, KOUP is beautiful...

The ride
Mechanically speaking, i wasn't able to throw Koup in any extreme tight corners. Biting pt of clutch is CRAZY!! (I have tried integra, np..) Engine stall 5times!!! No joke.. 5yrs licence + have been driving 3-4 times a wk still stall Koup 1.6Manual Test Drive Kopfschuettel

.. Brakes bite gracefully.. Naturally, e red carpet does increases my driving mood..

At e traffic lights, kinda sad tat thr's no WRX nor GTI on e sides(hahah jst purely for fun).... any1 would have anticipate wat will unfold next.. Accelerator was floored immediately, e tires was caught off guard and spinning crazily before catching-up with friction.. No surprise, thr's huge jerk forward but e acceleration i must say is loud(sound proof no gd??) + responsive!!.. Itz kinda heart stopping, Handling was ok for me mayb got used to Hydraulic steering as my dad's ride was...

Looking into the rear view mirror, my 8yrs Precious seems to b enjoying e ride n is equally excited!! Glancing my left, bet my SE stilll haven't got over my 5 times engine stall.. hahah.. But he still looks kool...

If there is anything to complain about
No LED daytime running lights on both front n rear!?!?
Rear windows kinda small..
No Turbocharged!!!???
No GPS!??!
No Scissor Doors!?!?!?
Biting pt is hell crazy!! gotta tk some time to adapt..

Koup is a Stylish, Value for money(i got it @e lowest price), Comfortable Ridez.
Compared to any 2d coupe(with a price tag of $**,000), i don’t need to re-emphasise itz VALUE FOR $$!!

yeah the shipment date is crazy, have to wait 4 months my god...but on the other hand it might not be a bad idea to receive koup on the 2nd or 3rd or 4th batch because there maybe enhancement along the way if the earlier batch of koup receive enough complaints. Just like the enhancement of forte and also the better motor steering for all the future forte...

hahaha...just a way to console the brain....LOLx

haha.....i neber stall but nearly couldn't even get out of the carpark lot. tried to slot into gear but all i got was a loud "GRRRRRRR" sound. tried again and again "GRRRRRRRRR". then SE reminded me that i forgot to step on clutch.....damn paiseh. Embarassed

Wheel spin? I am surprised with max torque of only 156nm at 4200 rpm this is happening. Perhaps the tires traction is not good? BTW, GTI max torque come in around 1800rpm, I doubt you can catch up with it. But I know u just mentioned it for fun or as a joke.

My take:

LED DRL - I don't want one, it is too much of a wannabe. It's like BMW angel lights, only looks good in BMW.
Rear Windows too small - most coupe are like that, it would otherwise won't look good
Turbo-charged - I want this also. Another technology that Kia should pursue is dual-clutch transmission. With the 2 combo; small engine with turbo (low rpm high torque, high bhp for small engine) and super fast gear change, it will be a major contender into conti space. BUT, it won't cost the same as today.
GPS - I'd rather have a Garmin, I have not seen any factory GPS that is good, those in Audi, BMW or Merc has outdated maps. You could be driving along Changi Exhibition area and the map will show u are in the seawhereas local Garmin maps has KPE days after it is opened. GPS is only as good as the maps it has, without updated maps and POIs, it is only for show.
Scissor Doors - what are these? Like those in RX-8? Thought they are called "suicide door".

I do agree with the gps thing. It's good to just get a standalone unit. Not too expensive and has much more features and updates to the map than the built in device.

my legs kinda cramp, didnt adjust e seats all e way till back... lets hope thr's still space to move backwards.. rear window is large eugh, side mirrors oo.. gre8!! damn excited!!

max - 1.6M, naught to 100 is <12seconds rite?? koup cannot b faster then GTI lah... ahhaha.. maybe i clutch + accel too much.. itz lambo scissor... hahaha.. LED like AUDI would be really GREAT!!

Nivlek - guess i would use mobile voice gps one... more solid... hahah..

btw anybody rev till 4000 - 4500 rpm??? i really really like e sound n response... is it dmgin e engine 2rev @ high rpm frequently??? i knw engine is not fragile as paper... jst wanna make sure.. hahah..

the seat can make higher one.. hehe.. the one i test drove the seat wasn't that low. i cannot remember i rev until how much.. too busy to look at the numbers.. LOL.. i just knw i did floor the accelerator..

HI, Had my 1.6 M test drive today too.

Floored the accerator once i turn of the lengkee showroom..
Rev till redline for 1st and 2nd gears.. 3rd gear nv see how much i rev to..
Power wise okay la.. rev till redline mah. hahaha. had 4 people in the car..

made a U-turn and floored again. the SE keep telling me infront got car.. hahahaha! Fun man.. but after u turn in second gear the response was a bit slow.. had to wait awhile before it goes to 6.5 k rev..

I only get to test drive the 2.0 MT. Overall, pretty impressed with the car. However, there is one element about it which made me reconsider booking right away.

The gearbox.

The throw is too long, gears are not precise, clutch too touchy and travels too far. Shifting feel is important to me if I want to get a manual. So yup, guess this is the only major shortcoming for the Koup so far.

change to a shorter gear handle.. confirm diff "feel".. slowly man.. gotta get used to everyhting tats new...The throw is too long, gears are not precise, clutch too touchy and travels too far. - i not high lvl enugh to comment on tis.. hahha//

Maybe its very common liao and I am mountain tortoise.

One thing to note is that changing to short shifter must accommodate the Euro-spec reverse gear Razz
