Better find a job quick, resume put "Working at xxx company" nicer than "Unemployed". Anyway keep trying until u find a place that appreciates you, one man's junk is another man's gold.

And the perennial issue with engineering... nobody want... EOL liao...
Maybe I should be a chef, today's paper talks about needing passionate people to cook in a football-field sized kitchen at Sands Resort. They could need a specialist (becomes specialist in 1 years time) in vegetarian or meatfree cooking.

Wah....I did thought of becoming a poly/uni lecturer when I am sick of the stabbings and cutting throats and stepping on ppl's head in the corporate world....
Poly lecturer also can lose job, then I better think twice.

Re: Feeling so low... clock counting to losing my job...
It is not a blanket thing that all poly lecturer will lose job, and also not quite true that there will be no stabbing and cutting throats as a lecturer, right? Can lose job because nowadays lecturer is also contract worker basis, until you can earn tenure.

That is really interesting. But really, probably you should start looking for other jobs. There are still so many things out there.

I tell my client a simple thing. The tool itself is just a tool, harmless, it is the person who wield the tool that makes the difference.

go for stock investment. it can yield the greatest returns with minimal risk, provided you know how to play the game.

I do understand the view that we can use the stock market to our benefit, but I also focus too much on the karma side of things and feel that there must be some evil people planning the ups and downs of the stock market. But I should refrain from blurting out my conspiracy theory... haha

Yeap, looking through recruit section now. Saw NYP hiring lecturers for the same engineering dept I am in now at another school, thinks twice... move sideways? Or go out and gather contacts because I lack a network...

Sidetracking a bit, anyone know how I can learn to play in stock market? Haha been wanting to learn but not sure how to go about it.
And I am a lowly engineer too.

Re: Feeling so low... clock counting to losing my job...
I signed up a with POEMS and thought about trading online, but did not proceed further. Apparently POEMS is good because you can make the decisions yourself through the online interface, then send in your signed documents by end of the day. My parents use an agent which they always have to call, to me that is a hassle.

stand with both feet on the ground <--- Lol.. if not chinese ppls, surely won't understand the meaning of this...
Bro, is true there isn't any shortcuts to RICHES, but sometimes u need to sideline abit just to earn that few extras provided you don't overdo it..
Now a lot of my friends are going into properties, which I don't understand why.. Perhap they felt now is a good time... I somehow rather think other way..

Re: Feeling so low... clock counting to losing my job...
buying a property now is like sitting on a gold mine. as singapore's land supply is absolutely limited, the price of a house will increase due to skyrocketing demand. when that happens, you can sell your house away at a great profit margin.

Re: Feeling so low... clock counting to losing my job...
stocks is not evil.
it is only evil when you gamble, and like all forms of gambling you will lose lots of $.
if you are interested, join me in my investing journey. We can learn together.
First and foremost, you have to know what type of person and investor you are. Thank goodness I already got to know my limits at at a young age.

cheer up mate.
there is always an opportunity.
look on the bright side, perhaps you will get your big break in your next job.
economy is good now, you can easily land a job.
it might not be as cushy, but sure you will make use of whatever skills you have now.

not everyone can afford that kind of leverage and risk. In house purchase, stan fees alone can go up to 30, 40ks...
not forgetting when you sell for a neat price, all other properties also go up in tandem. So back to square one.

hmm ok me quite opposite..to get wealth it's either business or letting your money work for you.
in fact i believe investments are necessary, and investing doesn't mean you cannot work hard in your work.

poor man - work for the same peanut salary for many years, engage in a rat-race, retirement is non-existent.
millionaire - money works for him, engage in a winning race, retirement is a straight-away deal.
the best deal apart from investing in stocks and properties, would be an employer yourself. any young millionaire (excluding those naughty ones who chew on their parents' financial muscles) you see outside are employers themselves, or at least a very high-value employee.

Re: Feeling so low... clock counting to losing my job...
i have a phrase for anyone who wishes to see their income grow:
"study hard, work hard, save hard, and earn hard"
study hard - pick up money-making books and read them, especially those written by successful millionaires. adopt their strategies or devise your own strategies based on their formulas (since they already went through many setbacks and downturns).
work hard - work far beyond the expectation. when you have completed your work, ask your boss for more. this will make you a more profitable employee which not only will raise your performance and productivity but also reduce your chance of being retrenched.
save hard - don't spend on too many unnecessary things like changing handphones within months or buying expensive stuffs. they won't do to make your more richer.
earn hard - see any money-making opportunity, go grab them. earn extra income from these extra opportunities. stock investments, properties, and other asset-growing businesses are such opportunities, but you must know how to play them and not let them play you.

You need to invest your money to; at bare minimum beat the inflation! Else, you will "lose" money every year.
Even i speculate on the stock market every now and then with the money i've made..

my way of minimising this "losing money every year" is to reduce my consumption. for example, i will eschew from buying a new phone that is sold in the year of inflation.
btw, you are tired already . go take a good rest.

Re: Feeling so low... clock counting to losing my job...
If you're the more risk averse kind.. Can park your money in those high dividend stock.
Anything is better than putting it in the bank!
But the best ROI is still to start your own business full/part time. Everything can be sold in this world. The world is your marketplace!

hmm... risk comes from an activity which you do not know what you are doing. when you are an expert, even those risky stocks are tamed pets in your hands.

There's still systematic risk. Even expert hedge fund managers also can get caught in 2007 sub-prime..
If risky stocks become tame pets.. Means bro white got lots of $$$ to manipulate.. hehehe.. CNY go visit you got big big ang bao?!

liplip....my sympaties to you. But as everyone says, its a perfect opportunity to try your hand at something else. :-)
Dunno what kinda engineering you are doing, but if its construction related, dun come join the industry. Construction is one of the lowest paying industries ever!! Unless of course you become your own boss. :-)
However, with construction, you dun lose your job as quickly as other industries because effects of like recession wont affect your so quickly. And anyways, doesnt really matter cos the amount we earn is peanuts compared to those bankers and investors. :-)
Anyways, all the bros/sis here can give you advise and such, but most importantly, what is it you want?? If you can answer this confidently, you are sorted!! Even for me, up till today, I cant tell you I have this question fully sorted out!! :-(
Most of us work for the money!! But you are trully blessed when you work for the passion and have fun working. :-)

Thanks for the tip: "What is it you want?? ... and you are sorted." I think my heart coming back to strength and actually looking forward to having job interviews. But as usual, the wait for an interview is not a happy feeling. I think I do want a new job, having already complained to no end for the current job.
I do also want to invest in money making instruments. I do feel the karma in forex and properties is more straightforward and makes proper business sense, especially when the person sitting next to me has 2 properties at any time and his first property he milked a million sing dollars from it... idol sia... but the problem is high cost of entry... so "save hard" is very important!
