Embassy car in Hit & Run
Will the driver of this car get away with it? Diplomatic cars are known to be immune to traffic offences...

Re: Embassy car in Hit & Run
hit and run? think it's criminal case already. but it is difficult to run away when the car plate is so distinctive and not to mention some dents on the front. how to escape like that? go underground workshop to repair secretly within 24 hours? lol...

Re: Embassy car in Hit & Run
no need to hide lor, diplomatic cars are immune to traffic offences. Thats right, no fines of any sort
longbow- Senior Member
Re: Embassy car in Hit & Run
but criminal case, the police will have to get involved. diplomat or even president of a foreign country, no chance to escape.

Diplomats are granted diplomatic immunity. However, when brought up to the relevant embassy, actions will be taken.

Sure hope the victim in ICU will be alrite. yea, think there might be some 'immunity' to laws in Sg . BUT , Crime is still crime, justice has been served.

From newspaper, seem that it from middle east country rich in oil. Not easy to prosecute a diplomat. Sarli that person is the high ranking one and dun want to malou his country. Anyway, they are trained to siam such cases and find someone to take over.

I wonder if that driver was drunk (more serious crime) during the accident......to me, knocking down 3 ppl in 2 junctions is not so 'easy'......

Re: Embassy car in Hit & Run
checked with a fren working in another embassy.... this is the standard line when accident happens.....doesnt matter whether got police report to back it(being stolen) up or not....
it seems that if embassy car is stolen, not required by law to report it...
anyone can confirm this? (those familiar with local laws regarding embassy personnel)

No need to report so that can easily passed as 'stolen' when something crops up ?
Then can get all those robbers to steal CD cars and go and wreak havoc liaoz......no need report mah......

Re: Embassy car in Hit & Run
Yea man, Wat the!!?? CAR STOLEN?? , think all the embassy cars should be asked to install immboliser/ tracker/ full alarm so that they won't get STOLEN so easily.
The embassy car is Audi??
also, can't the traffic police at least track the driver look from any CCTV?? Then they can identify the THIEF...and see if the THIEF is someone from embassy...

Re: Embassy car in Hit & Run
This case will probably not even discussed and/or tried to be resurfaced by the newspapers. It is sad and very disturbing that another diplomatic issue like this affect the lives of people. Whether or not the govt will do anything about it, we all have to wait.... condolences.
Sorry to bring it up. Some of u here probably know where i work and I have come across diplomats in my line of work often. They are what most people here think of them, arrogance, incompetent and think-they-own-the-world attitude. Our govt give em to much face...

wait..
another news on straitstimes
diplomat is suspect
THE Romanian diplomat who claimed that his embassy car was stolen at the time it was involved in a hit-and-run accident a fortnight ago is now a suspect in the case.
Dr Silviu Ionescu, the charge d'affaires of the Romanian Embassy in Singapore, has not been ruled out as the person behind the wheel of the Audi car in the early morning hit-and-run.
One of the three men who was hit in the Bukit Panjang accident has died.
In response to queries on Dr Ionescu on Tuesday, the police would only say they had 'not ruled out any suspect surfaced in the course of our investigations'.
Investigations were still under way with officers 'following up on all available leads'. The police had earlier written to the embassy asking for more details on the accident.
Checks by The Straits Times revealed that Dr Ionescu left the country sometime last week. Attempts to reach him on his Singapore mobile have been unsuccessful.

Re: Embassy car in Hit & Run
Yeah just read it off ST online on my iphone. I think the pressure is on to deal with the situation. Anyone who has read thru the wife taking the husband off life support share her pain. I think if the incident end in just injuries, the investigation would just end there. I guess they want to avoid public outrage after the REACH discussion regarding foreign talents and all that coming here.
To add, I am very pleased that now the Police is taking charge of the investigation and not some govt board of enquiry... hope the culprit gets it.

Re: Embassy car in Hit & Run
i doubt so...
cos the guy ran away after lying...
its too late, unless we have extradition treaty with Romania.
even if we have, they might refuse cause its their diplomat.
but like u said, i hope the real culprit gets it....
i believe in retribution.

Re: Embassy car in Hit & Run
sad to hear that...
Its very obvious that this old idiot ran off by lying that the car is been stolen and quickly left Singapore before he become a suspect.
In no doubt, a suspect is not a criminal but this kind of action, its the act of a culprit whom know the need to leave the country asap.
